Work under these conditions? You must be barking!

February 7th, 2010

Here is Toq’s job application (see this post for an explanation of why a spaniel puppy applied for a editorial internship).

Toq’s covering letter

Dear Mr Mulki,

I’m writing to apply for the role of editorial assistant at Bridging and Commercial. I attach a photograph.

I have five months’ experience as general dogsbody at Iconoclast Media, a small editorial company. There, I assist with reorganisation of paperwork and destruction of obsolete records. I am also keenly involved in the company’s CSR programme – encouraging employees to take regular outdoor exercise.

My communication skills are unconventional, but effective. I live in London and I definitely have a style of my own. In fact, you won’t have seen an applicant like me. I’m ready for anything, except bathing, and I’m on the ball – provided it’s plastic and filled with treats. I’m not sure how good my writing is, because it’s hard for me to hold a pen, but I’m a keen investigator.

Supporting myself on an expenses-only basis is not a problem because I’m willing to live in a crate and eat dog food. Self-sufficiency in a small office shouldn’t be an issue either. If I get hungry, I can always raid the bins. If you’re holding food, I can guarantee reliability and punctuality. If you’re not, I’m happy to work on my own for long periods.

I’m applying for this internship because I have a voracious appetite for new technology. So I’m keen to get my teeth into the supplied laptop.

This is a dog of a ‘job’. If you’re advertising a graduate role, pay properly or expect pets to apply. And you’d be barking to expect students to do work experience at Bridging and Commercial when there are many well-known financial publications around.

Yours,

Toqey Winhocklin
